Hello everyone,

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the unpredictability of Covid.

We are just as excited as you are to re-open our Arena facilities beginning this Monday, January 31 2022! As per Provincial directives, we are opening at 50% capacity indoors for participants on the ice and spectators in the stands and will be returning to Full Game Play. For those of you involved in the Shinny Program, this will also resume. Updated Ice User Guidelines are attached and come into effect Monday, January 31, 2022. We also wanted to highlight a few important reminders: Proof of Vaccination – Effective January 4th, 2022, the ONLY proof of vaccination that is accepted is the Enhanced Vaccination Certificate. This can be shown on your mobile device or with a printed copy. The QR code must be clear and able to be scanned.

Proper ID – Identification presented upon entrance must be a Government issued ID and include Date of Birth and Full Name (student cards are not accepted).

Safety Plans – A detailed Covid Safety Plan is required for your association and/or Group, Hockey, or Skating school and a copy must be provided to icebookings@greatersudbury.ca

Arena Capacities – Capacities are currently at 50% and each Arena varies in size. Please keep this in mind when attending an arena to view a game. We are limited to the number of people permitted.

Spectators – Family and friends attending as spectators for your ice bookings are required to adhere to the Arena and Covid Guidelines and Policies.

Masks – Masks are required to be worn at all times by everyone in the facility and must cover the nose and mouth, unless engaged in intense physical activity. Certain

Ice User Agreements – For those with current contracts with Ice Time on Monday, January 31st, you are scheduled to use this ice. If you need to cancel your ice for this day, please notify icebookings@greatersudbury.ca right away. February contracts will be sent out over the next few days – please be sure to review and inform of any changes required right away to icebookings@greatersudbury.ca

Zero Tolerance – Failure to follow guidelines and policies (including those for spectators) could result in immediate ejection from the facility and future booking privileges revoked. The City of Greater Sudbury may cancel future bookings without refunds.

We will follow up on any additional requirements or updates when received from the Province and/or Public Health.

We look forward to seeing everyone!

All the best,
Jody

Return to hockey - Jan 2022

Posted by Andre Leduc at Jan 25, 2022 6:02AM PST ( 0 Comments )

It will be up to the teams involved to reschedule any missed games, should they see fit and be able to fit them into their own schedules.
The League is NOT doing the rescheduling of games missed because of Covid.

It’s really the only productive way to handle these games for all the divisions, with over 200 game cancellations.

Some teams won’t want to make up games for their own reasons and tournament plans.
The more organized and effective staffs will do a better job for their teams, should they choose to.

I have indicated to the Associations that their teams plan for the playoff weekends here (Sudbury area) the last weekend of February (A Divisions) and first weekend of March (AA Divisions) and. This will provide certainty for competition that weekend.

Because of the uncertainties this season, teams can continue to try and make up games through March, should they desire to do this, regardless of the (early) playoff tournament, to give themselves competition taking them to TOCs.
-——————————————————-
The OHF has issued their take on the return to hockey for Jan. 31, so we will move ahead as a League and plan accordingly for a Jan. 31 startup, subject to local Health Units. Associations and teams should check and confirm their home iceslots as scheduled for League play in their rinks. Please check “Gamesheets” and advise, if necessary.

Health Units
At the current time, the NorthBay PHU has advised the North Bay Association that hockey can resume Jan. 31 there.
The League has not received any information concerning the Algoma PHU.
I have a reply from a Manager at the Sudbury PHU saying that they will confirm through media or other channels, but that there currently does not appear to be any restrictions preventing the return. But let’s await confirmation.

Thank you

Potential lifting of Covid Restrictions

I’m certain most of you are aware of today’s announcement from the Ford Government regarding the gradual lifting of covid restrictions. While this is positive news for us all, we are still waiting on recommendations from local health units, NOHA and OHF as to how this will affect hockey in our specific area.

As soon as this information is available to us we will be sharing via our website and Facebook

Regards,

Nickel City Board of Directors.
