I witnessed an amazing act of sportsmanship and camaraderie tonight when our U15 Manitoulin Panthers Hockey team played the second half of a home and home with the Nickel City Hockey Association U15A Sons. It was during the game in Val Caron on Tuesday night when one of our players had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital after receiving a very serious cut to his lower leg. This was a freak accident that saw blame placed on no one. Just one of those things.

Tonight saw the Sons come to Little Current for game two. Before the game started several of the Sons players approached our dressing room with a card and well wishes for our injured teammate. He was coming to the game but had not arrived yet so we asked the players to hang on to the card until he got there.
I wasn’t sure that our injured player had made it to the game or not. It was at the 2nd intermission that he came to our dressing room on his crutches with the card in his hands. I was so glad to see he received it. When I mentioned it to him he had the biggest smile on his face. Thank you Nickel City Sons players and coaches for this. It meant the world to our player and proves once again that hockey is so much more then what happens on the ice.- Scott Hughson
